Creative Guest Facts

My name is Riikka Kovasin. I live in Helsinki, the capital of Finland with my supporting, awesome husband and our two sweet daughters. Crafts are my passion, but since autumn 2013 I've also been working full time.

I've been doing all sorts of crafts my whole life. I think I started with cards and general crafts, then got into painting and printmaking, then to sewing and knits. I'm a clothes designer by education but haven't done exactly that job for a moment in my life. I got really got into papercrafts after I found scrapbooking. I started doing pages back in 2009 when my older daughter was about 6 months old. Since then my style has evolved to more mixed media direction and nowadays I usually grab gesso or other paint media when I start creating. I've also experimented with different sizes, but nowadays I feel most comfortable with the 12x12" paper. It has space for me to do some background work and layering and still leaves enough white space.

My passion is to do layouts. My number one topic is my family, usually my daughters, but I constantly try to remind myself about making pages about myself, too. Although I'm pretty sure that the girls enjoy looking at their own pages when they grow up, I imagine they find the pages about their mom or dad even a bit more fascinating. Besides the layouts, I also love to create mixed media canvases, cards and occasionally challenge myself with minialbums, too. Lately I've grown an interest on ATCs and have done a few sets. Please feel free to ask a swap!

I absolutely adore getting my hands into paints and mists! To me the process of creating is equally important than the finished page. To me it's a great pleasure to combine my love for beautiful products with the possibility to get messy and create a piece of memory keeping at the same time! A win-win situation! Scrapbooking is a form of self-expression to me and I'm creating pages because I want to document our lives to my children. It's sort of series of illustrated dairy pages.

I have been fortunate enough to get chosen to different design teams and get published. You can find my current and past design teams as well as my publications in my resume. You can also check the current design teams from my sidebar and go exploring to the sites! I also love to make videos and tutorials and I enjoy tremendously to teach in-person workshops. You can see some examples of the workshops here, in the workshops page.
