My name is Hee Sun Kim and I am from Korea.

It was 2009. I found such a beautiful handmade card on the Internet while searching for collage techniques and images I could use to decorate my personal planner. I was very much surprised to find out that there were so many people in the world making cards. I have a very unique style-I love to blend vintage elements into my mixed media art. What I enjoy doing the most, is sharing my ideas, techniques and my love of crafting with my students. My goal is to express feeling through my art and inspire creativity by sharing my work with others in my classes. I love crafting and I find joy in it every day!

The striking colour scheme helps keep message the focal point. 

The beautiful empheras with the touch of glitter strives one to reach for the gold. Motivates one to not blindly follow the crowd instead be the voice and lead. 

A closer view In love with the beautiful shaker , reminding you nothing is constant but CHANGE.

 

Variety is the spice in life, choose your path and lead. Don't be the echo. Walk through the cold and the dark, the light awaits at the end of the tunnel.

The awesomest quote in the January Challenge "be a voice, not an echo" caught my attention and inspired me to create the dashboard for January and begin the journey with it. The striking colour scheme - cold yet loud, tricked me. Hence I decided to use it in and around the sayings in my dashboard, i.e. the words, the frames, the elements, everything revolves around the message. ( that colour scheme complimented with keeping the message as the focal point) One of the most creatively intriguing and amazing challenge indeed

Hello dear Words and Paintery friends. I am incredibly honored and excited to be guesting this month and so very grateful for this opportunity.

More about me:  I live in the beautiful top end of Australia and love to work with mix media. I mainly create layouts, cards, ATC cards but also love to do off the page projects. I love to try new techniques and experiment with different products. This also mean that my style can vary from greatly from one project to another.

 I am incredibly honored to have been chosen as Australian Cardmaker of the year (2017) and serve on a number of different design teams. Through the years I have been fortunate to be published in various magazines including Australian Simply Cards, Scrapbooking Memories and Creative Papercraft Magazine.

 I craft because it makes me happy. I love to share this passion with others and hope that it will encourage them to play along and find the same kind of happiness. To me it's all about sharing the little things that makes life a happier place.

The Project

 I chose a dark background to emphasize the idea of limitless space and the idea of creating without any limits or boundaries. Dark backgrounds tends to stretch our imagination and force us to go beyond the comfort of white and subtle creations.  It makes your colors pop and enhances every little detail you add.

We are so thrilled to Welcome Olga Heldwin as our Creative Guest this month!

I'm Olga, a Polish woman living in Berlin.  Ever since I discovered scrapbooking,

I've been totally addicted, and now I spend hours splashing and splattering ink.

I'm always on the lookout for something new, testing new supplies,

new tools and finding new ways of using my 'old' art stash.

My work is either steampunk-y with lots of shiny and metallic objects,

or clean and bright with lots of white space, but always with a vintage feel.

As time has gone on, I gravitated towards mixed media, and now gesso

and gel mediums are always on my work table.

The Project

Hey all words and Paintery fans Olga Heldwein here! So i had this huge pleasure to work with this challenge. I was trying to include all elements . 

Gorgeous color scheme is represented by pattern papers scraps - I found in my stash ones that fitted the most . As pallet include much more of this gorgeous yellow tone my work is a little bit more yellow than blue. My photo and blue crystal add on perfectly complete challenge pallette. I found sentiment really inspiring as well - i write it all over my work as some kind of hand written frame.

Wen I got idea about Layout i knew it will be fun to make and I did a process video for you. My idea is quite simple and everyone can work with those techniques;

June Creative Guest - Christin Gronslett

The lady that we have invited as out Crative Guest this month is a long time friend of me (Marie). We have shared table on many big crops, chatted, shared products and had a blast most of the time. Hello ! My name is Christin Grønnslett. I am 43 years old and I live in Norway with husband and two kids (9 and 7) . I have been scrapbooking since 2002, but it wasn’t until 2009 after my daughter was born that I started scrapbooking on a daily basis. I started out with very clean and simple style, I really wanted to use lots of flowers and lots of stuff on my layouts, but all those flowers that I bought just never made it to my pages… I still use cardstock as my base and in a way I have stayed true to my style. Practice have made me bolder with color and I add more layers of paper and now also more layers of mixed media. Even though I am considered a mixed media scrapper I actually don’t like things getting too messy - that is whyy I NEVER use the spray on my mists. I am all about controlled mixed media and all though I can’t always control the paint when I drop in onto my cardstock, there is not so much mess to clean up and I can keep my desk messy with lots of stuff instead. 

My passion lies in 12x12 layouts and I love to find the color products to match and enhance the photos I want and the materials I have at hand. Another thing about my style is that you will almost never see me fill an entire page; I need my white space, and that is why I use wither white cardstock or watercolor paper. Words that have been used to describe my style are: artsy, whimsical, fresh and colorful. I don’t consider myself an artist, I am just one of those girls who likes to play with both color products and paper. I don’t like doing art journaling - for me that has absolutely no purpose, and the same reason why you don't see many home decor projects on my Instagram account.

Hello, Sylwia here with my special project for You! I am so happy to be a Guest Artist on this fantastic blog:) I love the theme of this month which combine my favourite turquoise color an rust;) As I wanted to create something in a vintage mood, I decided to go with art journal page in my vintage book/journal. I love an old text showing through the art work. And As I am passionate about fairies, I wanted to create one just for You. In this project, I used acrylic paint and watercolors. I always mix different mediums. There is no right or wrong. Feel free to experiment and play with different art supplies in one project;) I also used scraps of paper to add more texture to the journal page. I hope you feel inspired and that you will grab your arty 'toys' and play!:)

I am a mixed media artist and teacher from Saint Joseph, Missouri. As well as creating traditional artwork, I also works for a few creative and design teams including Artistcellar, Donna Downey's Artist Gang, and Canvas Corp Brands Crew. My artwork has been featured in UK based "Mixed Up Magazine" and the French magazine "Scrap Magazine." Most recently, my "Secret Project" exhibit opened at Glore Psychiatric Museum in St. Joseph, Missouri.

to be a guest this month. Thank you Marie for the invitation to jump in and spread my wings. 

Altered art is my passion! And has been for about 6 years now! I started out just with mini albums and normal scrapbooking, and then started finding which direction

my heart wanted to go in. Definitely in the altered/assemblage realm with lots 

of mixed media too! But I try to dabble in everything.

Creating is so important to me, but so is teaching and sharing my passion with others! I want everyone to feel the release I do when i am creating and in that zone! Few things compare!

The Project

This months board was very special, the quote really was PERFECT for me in so many ways! I just recently had my very first trip on an airplane to Phoenix, AZ to teach at Art Venture and attend CHA. I have ALWAYS been terrified to fly, but I decided I had to let go. I had never taught SO MANY students and was terrified at first. Feeling like a small fish in a big pond. But it was a great experience and I feel like I grew as a person.

As well, after 8 years with my honey, we have hit a rough spot. As couples do from time to time, and we have had a sort of bonding experience with me leaving , so our love grew stronger as well. 

Now that I shared all that personal business , Lol. Lets get to the projects. 

Since the quote focused on "love", I Immediately thought about what I had that represented love in my stash to alter. I came out with a perfume bottle and old hairbrush to alter. It just

reminded me of when you are first getting ready to meet your date or getting ready to go out with your husband of 40 years , we spend that time to pretty ourselves up using such items. Well, most of the time lol!!! 

Each item on the bottle and brush have little symbolic meanings for me and my journey in the last few months. Trials and experiences. Growth. Letting go of fears. Even the colors scared me at first! It's all about letting go and just believing in yourself!

Hi there! My name is Riikka Kovasin and I'm honored to be guesting here Words and Paintery! Thank you for asking me to guest again, Marie!

I've been doing all sorts of crafts my whole life - cards, knits, dollhouses, whatever I fancied at the time. When my first born was about 6 months old I discovered scrapbooking and have been doing pages ever since. That was back in 2009 so I've been doing layouts for more than 7 years now. Time does fly! 

I got intrigued with mixed media when I first discovered gesso about six years ago. First the gesso appeared only as splashes in my pages but when I realized "it's only paper" I started to use mixed media touches more and more in my layouts. One thing let to another and nowadays I'm doing all sorts of projects, not just layouts and cards. 

I create layouts to preserve memories and happenings, they work as a form of dairy or letters to my daughters. The canvases I make just to have fun, to make something, to ponder current things, to let out steam. I absolutely adore getting my hands into paints and mists! To me the process of creating is equally important than the finished project! 

The Project

I was intrigued by the wintery, almost white color palette but what really sparked the idea was the phrase underneath. What a splendid advice! Fear is something that often holds us back so it's time to take a risk every now and then if you want to succeed. 

The phrase led me to another one I've been seeing lately around - "what if I fall - but what if you fly" one. And as I happened to have a set with those wings at hand I decided to do a winged brush symbolizing how making mixed media projects works as a way to escape, to try my wings.
